The year of Expo 2015 also marks the 750th anniversary of the birth of Dante Alighieri, the most famous Italian in the world alongside Leonardo da Vinci. The Dante 750 project seeks to demonstrate the extraordinary vitality of an author who, with his Divine Comedy, influenced the collective imagination of the whole Western world, especially through the arts.

This goal is achieved through the languages of theatre, of multimedia installations, and through the words of the poet himself in public readings and shows.

May, September and October are the months for theatre, against the backdrop of the University of Milan’s headquarters (via Festa del Perdono). October will also see an all-female theatre performance at the Palazzo Reale.

The exhibition of Dantean codices – to take place from August to October in collaboration with the Biblioteca Trivulziana – and two editions of the exhibitions Artisti per Dante (Artists for Dante) are two further important events in the varied programme. Between September and October the public will have an opportunity to participate in a Dante Marathon in the courtyards of the Castello Sforzesco, with readings from the Divine Comedy, in collaboration with the Accademia della Crusca.
